A Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) is a market-based instrument that represents the environmental attributes of one megawatt-hour (MWh) of electricity generated from renewable sources such as solar, wind, or hydro. Each REC certifies that the energy was produced sustainably, allowing organizations to claim renewable energy usage and reduce their Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions.
By purchasing RECs equivalent to your electricity consumption, your company can claim that portion of energy as renewable. Under the GHG Protocol's market-based method, RECs allow you to report lower Scope 2 emissions — the indirect emissions from purchased electricity. This is a recognized and efficient way to demonstrate your commitment to clean energy without installing on-site generation.
SPE-GRK (Sertifikat Pengurangan Emisi Gas Rumah Kaca) is Indonesia's Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Certificate. It verifies that a project has achieved measurable emission reductions, which can be used for compliance with national regulations or voluntary carbon neutrality goals.
